This research article examines the outcomes and factors influencing success in root canal treatments where sealer material unintentionally extends beyond the tooth's apex. The study analyzed a large dataset of endodontically treated teeth, finding that a high success rate is generally maintained even with this extrusion. Notably, the size of a pre-existing periapical lesion was identified as a significant predictor of treatment success, with larger lesions associated with lower healing rates. The type of extruded sealer did not appear to impact the treatment outcome, although calcium silicate-based sealers showed a higher rate of dissolution over time compared to epoxy resin-based sealers.
