This article from the Journal of Oral Rehabilitation focuses on sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in adolescent orthodontic patients, investigating its prevalence and correlation with specific dentofacial characteristics. Researchers utilized the Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ) to identify a high-risk group for SDB and then compared their dentofacial measurements, gathered from orthodontic records, to a low-risk group. The study found a 6.5% prevalence of high SDB risk within this population and observed that those at higher risk exhibited more pronounced sagittal skeletal discrepancies in their jaw relationships. While identifying a link between certain facial features and SDB risk, the authors acknowledge limitations like the small size of the high-risk group, emphasizing the need for further research with larger and more varied samples.
