This journal article investigates the performance of AI chatbots, specifically ChatGPT versions 3.5 and 4.0, when answering questions from the International Team of Implantology (ITI) certification exam for dentists. The study compared the scores of these AI models to those of licensed dentists, focusing on text-only multiple-choice questions due to the chatbots' limitations with images. The findings indicate that ChatGPT 4.0 performed comparably to human dentists, both achieving passing scores, while ChatGPT 3.5 scored lower than both. The authors conclude that AI chatbots hold potential as educational tools in dentistry, yet they also caution about the ethical implications of their use in online examinations, suggesting the need for further research and a consideration of their misuse.
